Chester

Chester has a long, rich and interesting past. There is a military history, starting with the Romans.
Chester then went on to become an important Saxon town, and was still a major military stronghold by the time of the Civil War in the 17th Century.
For a long period of time Chester was one of the most important sea ports in the Country.
Chester is lucky that much of it's history is still on show.
The most unique feature is the 13th Century "Rows" (2 tiers of shops running through the main Streets). The City is completely encircled by City walls of which you can take a leisurely walk (only 2.2 miles),
Destination for the history hunters include visiting the beautiful Gothic Cathedral or Britain's largest Roman Amphitheatre, built to entertain 7,000 spectators. (Which is currently undergoing a large scale excavation).

Even though historic Chester is a delightful mix of exclusive stores, excellent dining and vibrant nightlife, you can never forget that this modern, exciting City has been shaped by 2,000 years of history.
